“No subscription” comes down to one question: where does the recorded video live? The eufy E340 answers it best, with storage built into the doorbell itself — nothing else to buy, no fee, footage you keep. The Blink is the value play: the doorbell is cheap and runs for up to two years on AA cells, and once you add a Sync Module 2 (a one-time buy) it stores clips locally with no monthly charge. The peephole camera records to a microSD card you supply. In each case you pay once for the hardware and the recording is yours — which is exactly what you want when you’re renting and every recurring bill follows you from lease to lease. The doorbell to avoid if you hate fees

We’ll say it plainly: if refusing a subscription is your line in the sand, don’t buy a Ring doorbell. Ring’s battery doorbell has no local storage at all — recorded video and history are locked behind a Ring Home subscription, so without it you get live view and alerts but can’t play back what the camera caught. The hardware is genuinely good and the app is polished, so plenty of people happily pay; it just isn’t a no-subscription doorbell, and no accessory changes that. Does the eufy doorbell really record with no monthly fee?

Yes. eufy publishes 8GB of local storage built into the E340, so it records motion and doorbell events on-device with no subscription. A cloud plan is optional if you want off-site backup, but the core recording, playback and dual-camera view all work fee-free out of the box.

Why isn't Ring on this list?

Because Ring's battery doorbell has no local storage — recorded video requires a Ring Home subscription, so it can't be a no-subscription pick no matter which mount you use. Live view and real-time alerts are free, but playing back a clip is paywalled. If you refuse a monthly fee, choose eufy or Blink instead.
